There are these two crappy little parks on Royal Avenue, right above the college, facing one another across 8th Street; I pass them every day on the way to and from work. The City of New Westminster, in its charming perpetual self-delusion, assigns the name of "park" to anything with a strip of grass and a bench - which is everything from multi-acre woodlots to, well, a strip of grass and a bench. These two particular parks are gardens, a few trees, a strip of grass and a bench, and one of them, the smaller of the two, has been surrounded by orange construction fencing for the past month or so.
About a week ago, I noticed a new sign on the fence, which described what they were doing - landscaping, apparently. They're putting in a statue, and a fountain. A statue of a little boy in a raincoat, called... Puddle Jumper.
