*grumblepoliticalrantgrr*

Joyce Murray just knocked on my door. That would be the actual Liberal candidate for New Westminster. (I did not recognize her on sight. Else I'd have gone back to my cartoons.) She actually just tried to convince me that the Liberals have been good for students. Apparently there's been expansion. I said: yes, in trade schools, goody. And whee, our tuition is now at the national average. I said: except now it's twice what I can actually afford. And apparently it's better to have a stable economy than an educated population. She said things were more "stable" now and used the words "choking off the economy", referring to the pre-Liberal government's tuition freeze, when I pointed out that enrollment had gone down because of the tuition hikes. And that I had come up a few thousand dollars short over the laste few semesters. I kept saying "I'm a student", and she kept blinking and plowing onward. For which I must give her credit. Except why the fuck was that woman and her polyester suit in my building, anyway? I should be allowed to set traps.

I'm annoyed that she made me mad. I didn't yell or anything, but I rather wish I'd known they were coming so I could have prepared a more detailed rant. I finally got rid of her by telling her I was raised a socialist, am a student, have a social worker for a mother, and have actual, consciously-formed opinions and political affiliations and therefore was not going to change my vote just because of her less-than-cunning arguments (I may have been ever-so-slightly less eloquent than that). I think I also said something about worrying about the possibility that there were people who might vote Liberal just because she told them to. Yeah, I was rather bitchy. But she was extremely condescending. When I answered the door she asked if my parents were home and then proceeded to treat me as if I'd never voted before, even after I told her I had done so three times. She also totally ignored eeeeeverything I said except the parts that clicked in with her spiel. Grrr. Stupid... capitalist... wearing too much perfume... making me sneeze...GIANT GAS-GUZZLING MONSTROSITY SUV DOWN AT THE CURB*muttersweargrumble*

I am curious, however, about the implications of her visiting us in person. I don't think the NDP guy did that, although I wasn't here when they came by. Does this indicate crazy-obsession-level involvement, or desperation? I hope for the latter. *glare*

EDIT: They are still in the building. WE ARE BEING INVADED SOMEONE MAKE THEM GO AWAY OR I'M GOING TO ATTACK THEM WITH NATIONALIZED HEALTHCARE IN MISSILE FORM.

CORRECTIONAL EDIT: I do not actually posess nationalized healthcare in missile form. Although that would be cool.

AHAH EDIT: New plan! I will instead chase them away beaning them over the heads with my Arts diploma! They will FLEE BEFORE THE MIGHT OF MY NON-UTILITARIAN DEGREE! WRAPPED AROUND A BRICK! OF COMMIE, ECONOMY-CHOKING ART!

LAST WORD EDIT: *mutterI'llchokeyoureconomymutter*

I am glad that the door to my suite is nicely hidden around two corners which will hopefulyl discourage unwanted/uninvited visitors.

I love how people have conveniently forgotten what the liberals have done TO our province, particularly students. I know two TWO communications students who plan on voting liberal. I thought you have to prove your carved in stone socialism before they let you into the school of communication.

I'll bet their mommies and daddies pay for them though. Stupid spoiled brats without part time jobs or debt.

Yes. That. *growl* I was going to include that accusation in my post, but it seemed petty as she was already wearing an overpriced polyester suit and wearing enough perfume to make my asthma act up. (Also it seemed overly generous to assume she'd been "educated" per se, since she refused to acknowledge the remotest possibility that I had thoughts of my own.)

Students voting Liberal drive me mad like no one else. Especially Arts students. Especially SFU students. I mean, what the hell are you doing at the most socialist post-secondary school in the bloody country if you're a capitalist, anyway? *bangs head against wall*

That's what I'd like to know. At clubs days last fall they placed us (the uber socialist cmns student union) right across from the young liberals. Much fun was had laughing at them but I have to scoff at such an organizations existence.

We were built on the very foundation of socialism. Sigh.

Ah, yes. I remember that table. I couldn't believe there even *was* a young Liberals table at SFU clubs week. The weirdness. I may or may not have hurt their feelings when, in passing, I noticed their sign and actually went "hah!" out loud. Though I suspect I wasn't the only one.

Don't these people know that the first important historical contribution our school made was to shut down for two days for a sit-down protest? *baffled headshake*

Well we were pointing and laughing and commenting on the irony loudly. It was a most amusing pastime.

I understood the young liberals' presence at UCFV eg every bible thumpers right-wing censorship-laden paradise but SFU, not so much.

And no one would take their suckers.
