Xena: Warrior Princess was actually a Macedonian.

I'm not sure which is weirder; that she spent so much bloody time in Athens/Sparta or that that was the first place my mind went after seeing the name "Amphipolis" in my textbook. (Which was not a village, but a city-state, hence "polis".)

I am a geek. ;)

Actually that would depend on the timing. Originally it was an Athenian colony, defended during the Peloponnesian War by none other than Thucydides himself. He lost, thus getting exiled and time to write.

And the revolt of the relatively near-by Potidea (rings any bells?:) a Corinthean colony at the time, was one of the pretexts for the outbreak of the war.
