I find I take issue with Gordon Campbell being referred to as "honourable".

EDIT, five minutes later: Oh. The Government of BC website just crashed my computer. How very encouraging. >.

And this is why competent people won't run for public office -- because of attitudes like that.

I mean, what truly smart person really wants jerks crawling up their ass all the time?

That, unfortunately, is a consequence of politics. Like it or lump it. Democracy, anyhow, which is run on the premise that a thousand fools know better than one wise man. o.O

Let me rephrase that: democracy is based on popular stupidity. Consequently an intelligent politician would be out-of-place.

More, stems from the fear that that one 'wise man' is a legend in his own mind -- and isn't really wise.

Well, that's awfully bloody defeatist. Personally I'd prefer to place my trust in the probably wise man than bank on the certain stupidity of the democratic voters.

But then, I'm not much of a democrat. Too many socialist leanings.

...or possibly fascist. ;)

Doesn't make much difference, really - modern democracy is mostly a PR scam; as if it could be anything else in a government where seventy-five percent (pessimistic estimate) of the voters don't know what they're voting for. We have a populist government. If your voting could really change things, it would be illegal.

But it brings us back to my first point -- namely, that anybody halfway intelligent would not want to be Supreme Ruler of ANYTHING, because it's too much fucking WORK.
